About this show--a few thoughts from Erica:

"Clouds have over my 46 years always held my attention. When I was little I used to look for the shapes of things In  the clouds and I could lay on my back in the grass for hours (if the mosquitos weren’t bad) and watch the clouds move. I love the sky, especially when it is not a perfect blue space but speckled with clouds. Dark and brooding, light and fluffy, I have seen most of the color wheel in the sky and I can say it never grows old. I will watch its beauty unfold until the day I die!"

"Colour... I Love how many colors exist in the world around us and try to use all of them in one painting or another! I love when an artist uses all the colors in the same painting successfully. I personally feel each painting has a mood and color palette. I want to give each painting its own voice and personality. Colours can do that! I think I would get a little bored if I had to use the same colors every time. I also know people have colour preferences. Some love yellow orange and red while others love blue and green and grey. I like to paint for everyone.  Peoples homes are varied and different, I like to keep that in mind when I put my colours onto the canvas. Nature is filled with colour and mood. Sometimes the sky is vibrant and dynamic, sometimes its peaceful and serene, I want to reflect the ever changing beauty of nature and show what I see to the best of my ability. I want to paint for everyone something beautiful that can make their homes a little happier and bring them a feeling of nostalgia and a craving to go sit outside and watch the sunset." -- Erica Hawkes

About The Artist

Erica was born in 1975 and grew up in the countryside of a small city in British Columbia surrounded by trees and bird song, quiet starry nights filled with northern lights and peaceful snowfall. Erica had a great deal of alone time inspired by her environment and this has helped to mold the art she makes today. Today, Erica lives in the Beautiful Okanagan Valley in BC with her husband and two children.

Over the years Erica has been most inspired by the Art Nouveau movement of the turn of the century genre artists and one can catch glimpses of the curved decorative lines inspired by natural forms and structures. According to the philosophy of the style, art should be a way of life. Art Nouveau acted as a transition between the eclectic historic revival styles of the 19th-century and the Modernist style which rejected the more traditional forms of art. Besides Art Nouveau, Erica is also inspired by the Group of Seven, El Greco and Japanese minimalism.

Recently, Erica has emerged into the gallery scene with two distinct styles one she has coined Cubist Impressionism and the second is called Nouveau 7, both of which she hopes will lend credit to the varied teachers and styles she is so taken with. "I strive to paint each picture with a life of its own. I want my art to be memorable and beautiful. Art that is accessible, recognizable and has a modern twist." Erica loves to emphasize water and sunsets and sky in its many forms of beauty. She finds unending inspiration in Canada's amazing lakes and skies. She feels truly blessed to live in such a natural place as Canada, and hopes that her art can bring a smile to your eyes and a sense of peace to your soul, especially while we live in such a high stress, fast paced world. For Erica it is an honor to paint scenes that inspire reflection and calm, and hopefully remind us to look up and go down to the beach and watch the sunset.  My paintings are a reflection of our treasure that is the Okanagan. It is a joy to get to share them with you."
