About The Artist
Okanagan artist, Angie Roth McIntosh has a strong desire to use her art to connect people, communities and the world around her.
International artist Angie Roth McIntosh is a Penticton resident with studios in the Okanagan, northern BC and Puerto Vallarta Mexico. She has painted around the world for over 30 years often from life in the Okanagan northern BC, the Rockies, Italy, France, Mexico and China. She teaches several painting workshops each year for organizations such as the Okanagan School of the Arts, Island Mountain Arts in Wells, and Art Vallarta in Puerto Vallarta. Her work hangs in galleries around the world, The Maracuya Boutique Gallery in Puerto Vallarta Mexico, the Lloyd Gallery in Penticton and Chasing Art Studio in Chase BC.
Artist Angie McIntosh left her medical studies to pursue painting in 1983. In 1987 she journeyed to the Central Institute of Fine Arts in Beijing and with the assistance of Prof. Tommy (Jieqin) Wu she studied with renowned contemporary Chinese painter, professor and later leader at the Beijing academy Yang Feiyun and Prof. Wei. McIntosh returned to Canada and continued her training and practise in watercolour, then studio acrylics under the tutelage of Victoria BC artist Brian Simons and finally moved to plein air oil painting when she returned to China in the 2010's, worked outdoors in the Okanagan, the Rockies, and northen BC and at her own studio in Stewart on the International boundary with Alaska for 18 years until the end of 2023.
Angie started the Penticton Plein Air Painters, the Puerto Vallarta Plein Air Painters and also the Plein Air Painters World and Plein Air Painting Workshops groups on Facebook. McIntosh developed her Pillars of Painting course and taught workshops for the Okanagan School of the Arts and Island Mountain Arts in Wells.
McIntosh maintains studios in Peurto Vallarta, Penticton and her work hanfs in galleries and shops in Mexico, Stewart and Penticton BC.
Angie was the 2010 Meadowlark Festival Artist hsd a show at the Penticton Art Gallery. In 2021 McIntosh exhibited at Kitimat Art Gallery and included 5 ft x 9 ft "Forest Mystery" which had to be painted on 3 panels for transport to the Museum. Her work was shown for 6 months in 2023 at the Vallarta Botanical Gardens for their Habitat Protection Program in Mexico. It included the local ocelot, an 8 foot giant Ficcus tree, and "The Earth on Fire", an abstract with forest fires, ocean rise, flooding and extreme glacier loss.
In 2024 McIntosh opened the Chasing Art Studio and Gallery in downtown Chase BC, in the Shuswap between Salmon Arm and Kamloops on Hwy 1.Half of the display was painted on location on her journeys around the world and through BC and the rest are studio pieces, including the 9 ft "Forest Mystery" painting highlighting hr interest in preserving the natural forest ecosystem , the source of life on the planet . "Valuing nature and community, painting beauty!" is McIntosh's motto.
