Robyn Lake

Solo Exhibition: The sensuous Landscape - July 9 to AUGUST 6, 2022

SENSUOUS: (adjective) 1. Taking delight in beauty. 2. Providing pleasure or gratification to the senses. Sensuous describes anything that feels, tastes, smells, looks, or sounds good; anything that makes your five senses feel good.  Isn't that an incredible adjective for this beautiful paradise, the unceded ancestral lands of the Syilx Okanagan Nation, on which we are so lucky to live, and play?

The Lloyd Gallery is very proud to show Robyn Lake's brand new collection of 25 original new works completed in June, 2022. Robyn will be in attendance at the opening of this show, on SATURDAY JULY 9 from 10am to 1pm.  Please come view the works in person if you can, and have a visit with Robyn.  * Out of town enthusiasts, if you really love a painting, we would be pleased to digitally install it on your own wall to try out.  Send us your room images!

About the Artist

Robyn Lake had her first solo exhibition of watercolours in Penticton 1996. Since then she has moved to painting with oils and acrylics and has continued to develop her representational style, varying her subjects from intimate close up views of flowers and fruit, to panoramic views of the landscape.

Her luscious, sensual paintings reflect her intense love of the land, and the vibrant colours express her emotional response to her subject matter: “I was born in the tropics, where all the colours in the landscape are so intense and I wonder if this hasn’t always remained with me. More than that though, when I observe the landscape, I feel a deep sense of gratitude and joy, and the brilliant colours I use are an expression of this. I want people to feel a sense of this when they look at my work.

Robyn states: "This year, due to  circumstances, I painted all the new work in my studio here in Penticton.  I thought it would be a struggle.  It wasn't!
When I paint, I am totally focused on that. Putting paint on the canvas is a meditative act, and my colour choices are intuitive, a reflection of how I look at the brighter side of life.
I want the people who view my paintings to get a glimpse of that, a sense of joy in a world where we are overwhelmed by what is going on around us."

Robyn’s vibrant oil and acrylic paintings have been in numerous solo and group exhibitions and are in collections around the globe.  Ask the Lloyd Gallery to view Robyn's impressive CV of 25+ solo exhibitions and more than 80 group exhibitions.
